Cozumel Mexico Honeymoon – Post Trip

Cozumel Mexico Honeymoon - Post Trip

Wanted to share our honeymoon details as we had an absolute blast. I know many of you may be looking for some ideas.

We flew from San Antonio into Cozumel, Mexico. 45 min flight to Houston, then ~2 hours into Cozumel. The vast majority of the following was planned ahead of time. While she planned the wedding, I did this lol.

Day 1 Flew in, kicked back at the hotel, and got some rest. We stayed at the Westin Cozumel. Really nice place. About $350/n. They have an all inclusive option, but I went with the middle route offering free breakfast and 20% resort food and drinks. We also had the penthouse (top floor, huge balcony). Incredible view of the Caribbean. Food and drinks were excellent.

Day 2 Rented a jeep through HTL Rentals and circled the island. Drove to Punta Sur eco park, climbed a lighthouse, and she drank margaritas at their beach club area. I didn’t drink this day since I was driving, so play it safe. This was so much fun and really got us comfortable with the island. Quite remote on the south side and tons of nature. Never felt in danger, just have to avoid the scooter folks while downtown.

Day 3 We went to the Cabanna Beach, an unbelievably nice beach club connected to the Chankanaab park. Private cabanna, with food and drinks. Incredible snorkeling – and I did a dive. (Through an incredible cave). In the evening we went to Buccanos, a nice restaurant within walking distance from the Westin.

Day 4 Went into town, got our souvenirs and did some people watching (the cruise shippers mainly). Around 4 o’clock we went on a private sunset sailing trip on a beautiful catamaran. The company is called Windseekers. While it was a bit expensive, it was well worth the incredible experience. It was a surprise for her, and she just about cried when we boarded the catamaran.

Day 5 We went fishing with Aqua ventures. They picked us up right off of the Westin dock I caught about 10 mahi-mahi and a black fin tuna. After an afternoon nap, we went back into town for a coffee and some appetizers and drinks from a few restaurants. Lots of really good food on the island.

Day 6 We kicked back at the hotel went to the spa did some snorkeling at the beach in front of the hotel. Saw tons of sea life, including stingrays, eels, lobsters, and dozens of fish species. For dinner we went back to buccanos and watching the sunset along with about a dozen of their unbelievable cocktails.

Day 7 Our last day, we went for a morning swim, and then took a taxi to the airport. A sidenote… If you’re looking at Cozumel, try to find a flight that flies directly and then you don’t have to mess with Cancun transportation and the ferry ride. It was so much easier to fly in this very small airport on the island.

I highly recommend Cozumel as a honeymoon destination from the US. Relatively short flights with lots of offer, but still an incredibly relaxing vibe. If you have any questions about the island, or anything we did, feel free to ask. We always felt safe, everyone was friendly, and got by just fine with USD.

Enjoy your trip! Remember to plan ahead so you can truly kick back and roll with your itinerary. Glad I did!

I tracked cost to the best of my ability and estimate about $7,000. You could definitely do it for half the price – if you don’t stay in a penthouse suite, go on a private sailing trip, and eat it very nice restaurants.

Was worth every penny! Filled up two GoPro memory cards with pictures and videos.
