Hi! My husband and I got married last month, and are going on our honeymoon in December to Thailand. We decided to delay it a bit to A) give ourselves time to recover from wedding madness and B) avoid the rainy/HOT season in Thailand.
We were planning on starting to try for a baby in November. I emailed my doctor yesterday to ask about vaccines (typhoid + JE) and she gently reminded me that Thailand has Zika-carrying mosquitos and we should wait to start TTC until we've been back for 3 months.
Didn't even cross my mind, but I'm so glad that she gave me the heads up before we jumped into trying! My trip would have been soooo much less enjoyable if I was already pregnant and spending the entire time panicking about mosquito bites.
Had we thought of it, we probably would have chosen a different honeymoon destination without the threat of Zika – just because starting a family ASAP is a huge priority for us.
