Honeymoon advice for eager explorers – Japan + ???

Hello!

Deciding on November honeymoon plans, flying out of NYC. We’d both love to explore Asia, and have three weeks time. Japan is top on our list but we’d like to combine it with somewhere else and split up the time. We’re planning to be really active exploring Japan’s countryside, so would love something more slower-paced/ relaxing/ tropical for the other part of the trip. Perhaps 1 week in Bali, 2 weeks in Japan? Has anyone done a SE Asia/ Japan combo trip like this before and can please offer advice?
