Hi everyone,
We’re planning a two-week European honeymoon and need help deciding between Greece and Portugal. We’d prefer to go in October (more affordable) but could do September if the season is better. Here’s what we’re looking for:
• Relaxed pace: We want to stay in just 2-3 places, soaking in the vibe of each city/town rather than packing our days with sightseeing.
• Chill activities: Fun, low-key things to do every day—exploring new spots, smaller hikes, food markets—but no exhausting full-day trips or museum marathons.
• Food-focused: We’re pescatarian and love great food, from nice dinners to casual cafes and markets.
• Walkable cities: We’d prefer not to rent a car and love exploring on foot.
• Lively atmosphere: we’re not big on clubbing or anything but like to be in lively/happening places.
Here’s what we’re considering:
Greece: Athens + 2 islands (maybe Santorini, Milos, Paros, or Naxos). Is October still a good time for the islands, or do places shut down for the season? We’re drawn to the slower pace, beauty, and food.
Portugal: Lisbon, Porto/Douro Valley, and maybe a beach town. Is it worth going to the Algarve in October, or are there better options closer to Lisbon/Porto? Can Portugal offer the chill, romantic vibe we’re after?
Which destination would better suit our preferences? Any recommendations for cities, activities, or the best time to visit?
Thanks so much for your advice!
