I'm currently deep into preparing our honeymoon in October.
So far I'm set on starting in Cairo (2 nights in front of the pyramids followed by 2 nights in Zamalek over the Nile) and ending in Dahab (9 nights in a very cosy Airbnb and a PADI OW course).
That leaves us with 3 free nights between the two.
Initially I wanted to spend that time in Luxor, being myself very into history. But between the not-so-great logistics (expensive local planes with layovers) and the city being extremely touristy, I’m second-guessing whether it’s the right call for our honeymoon.
We're looking for something that feels more emotionally immersive than just box-ticking temples, ideally something with romantic scenery, unique character, and space to breathe. I still want something memorable, but I don't want it to feel like we're rushing or trapped in tours.
So now I’m torn between:
- Sticking with Luxor,
- Using those 3 nights for something less conventional like Fayoum,
- Or even extending Cairo and adding a side trip from there.
Would love your thoughts: is Luxor worth it for a honeymoon if we’re already doing Giza, Saqqara and Cairo museums?
And if not Luxor, what would you suggest for those 3 days between Cairo and Dahab?
Thanks in advance!
