Hi there!
We've planned our whole 100-person wedding in less than 5 months, and are entering honeymoon planning with that same energy — we want to depart from NYC the last week of October (just under 3 weeks away!).
Our key criteria are:
- a 'big' trip — not something we could also do with <1 week vacation time.
- not "just" lazing on a beach for 2 weeks (I'd get bored!)
- romantic — getting special treatment because we're honeymooners!
- prefer warm or temperate climate; if it's cold, want to really lean into it with cozy firesides
- restful, at least for the first few days. After that, I'll be more ready to be gung-ho!
- not a roadtrip (staying at least 2-3 nights at any location).
- big preference for all-inclusives. We ideally want to have to make as few decisions as possible on any given day.
We do have a tentative arrangement for a Kenyan safari with Yellow Zebra, 2 nights in Nairobi + 3 nights in Laikipia + 3 nights at Mara Conservancy for ~$15k plus flights, and we'd have to decide tonight/tomorrow whether to go for it or not. But I'm just feeling very afraid of doing a safari on such short notice, doubting whether Kenya is the right place to go on safari (like, I'd love to see Victoria Falls!), worrying that it won't be romantic enough, worrying that I'll spend the whole time feeling dry and dusty (like I did when I went to Mali), etc.
For reference, our three initial ideas were a 1-week Cunard transatlantic cruise followed by some active European sightseeing (but the cruise departure dates don't align), the Orient Express (not currently running), or a dude ranch out west (but it felt like something we could do another time with <1 week vacation).
