My fiancée and I are getting married late June 2026 and would like to honeymoon soon after (so ideally in early-mid July). As east coast nature-lovers and hikers, we both want to experience some of the natural diversity and beauty that the western US has to offer (particularly in mountains such as the Rockies). However, we generally want some rest & relaxation and don’t plan to rough it out in the woods overnight (this time).
Obviously because of the time of year, heat will be an important consideration, and many national parks will be swamped with other people. We’re open to places like parks where you can just rent a cabin and pick your own activities and trails, or more pre-planned experiences like dude ranches.
Ideally we’ll get a 1-2 week experience, focused in states like Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. We’re hoping to spread the trip over 2-3 major locations without an excessive amount of traveling between (less than a day total of driving). We do however plan to fly out from the east coast.
What places should we look at for these criteria (in the Montana to Colorado range, not too hot in July, not filled with crowds)? Additionally, are there any suggestions for kinds of experiences that incorporate the outdoors (again, like dude ranches).
