Hi everyone! I’ve already posted here once, but a few things have changed since then — so I’m making a new post with updated details and ideas. My soon-to-be wife and I (28M/29F, from Austria) are currently planning our honeymoon and would love some suggestions to make it an unforgettable trip.
We’re both healthy and fit (we enjoy hiking), vegetarian, and love good food. We originally met as a dance couple, so we also enjoy Latin and ballroom dancing. I’m a passionate photographer, so photogenic landscapes and spots are a big plus — and we’d love if drone use is possible (not a must, but a bonus if permits are easy).
A great option for us would be multi-city flights — for example, staying a few days in a stopover city like Dubai before continuing to a more nature-focused destination. We also have hotel loyalty memberships (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) and often benefit from upgrades, which could help us save money.
Budget & Points
Our budget is around €2,500–€3,500 per person, including flights.
We also have around 70,000 AMEX points available — if anyone has tips on how to make the most of them, your help is very much appreciated!
We’re also open to using travel agents and would love specific, detailed recommendations if you have any!
What we’re looking for:
- Beautiful scenery and great landscapes – perfect for hiking and photography.
- Warm weather – doesn’t have to be tropical, but no freezing cold please.
- Adventure + relaxation – a few days of light hiking or nature experiences with time to relax, ideally with a touch of luxury.
- Cultural differences – we want to experience something very different from Austria.
- Friendly locals & safety – very important to us.
- Vegetarian-friendly & authentic food – we’re not fans of burger-pizza-pasta hotel buffets.
- All-inclusive is not needed at all, but we are open to it. Most of the time, we prefer to explore the local cuisine.
- No special nightlife needed – we’re not into partying, but enjoy dancing (especially Latin-style) if the setting is right.
- Multi-city travel – we’d love to combine city vibes with nature-focused destinations.
- Drone use – optional, but we'd love to fly if it's permitted in scenic places.
Travel Details:
- Length: 12–16 days.
- When: Preferred travel time is late September to October 22–23, 2025. If that doesn’t work, we’re also open to December–January 26.
- Departure: Graz, Austria (likely flying from Vienna or nearby airports).
- Past destinations: Iceland, Swedish Lapland, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Croatia – we love both adventure and relaxation.
Destinations we've considered:
🌍 Would like to do:
- Thailand – Beautiful scenery, good food, and friendly people. However, we are a bit concerned about hygiene/cleanliness in some areas.
- Malaysia & Singapore – Love the mix of city and nature. Budget could be tight due to multiple flights.
- Vietnam – Great variety and value, but we’re a bit worried about cleanliness/hygiene.
- Seychelles / Maldives – Stunning beaches and tropical vibes. Heard mixed opinions about whether there’s enough to do beyond relaxing.
- Southern Africa (Kruger / Tanzania Safari + Zanzibar) – Amazing landscapes, rich culture, and wildlife. Still slightly concerned about safety (crime, corruption, and how to safely handle wildlife on self-drives).
- Caribbean Islands – Very interested, but not sure which islands are safest and offer the best value for money. Open to suggestions!
- Warm U.S. destinations like Miami – Nice beach/city combo, but concerned about unpredictable travel restrictions or policies.
- Short stay in Dubai + longer stay in Oman – This combination looks stunning and diverse. We’re a bit unsure if it’s the right fit for a honeymoon, but we’re definitely intrigued.
❌ Less likely to do:
- Nepal (Himalaya region) – Beautiful and friendly, but we’re looking for something a bit more luxurious.
- Canary Islands – Feels less “honeymoony” and a bit too familiar after Iceland.
- Bhutan – Too expensive for our budget due to the daily tourism fee.
- South America – Very interested in the future, but we’re holding off for now due to safety concerns and the fact that we don’t speak Spanish yet.
