Maldives in December or French Polynesia in September?

Hi all, my fiancée and I can’t decide between the four seasons in bora bora and the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives. We love the water in general: love to snorkel, surf, paddleboard, etc. We also LOVE good food. Where would be the best place? Like the title says, if we do Maldives we’ll do December and if we do FP it’ll be August/September.
