Maldives vs Sri Lanka for a honeymoon — which one would you recommend?

I’m trying to decide between Maldives and Sri Lanka for a honeymoon and would love to hear from people who have visited either or both destinations.

From what I can see, Maldives seems perfect for a relaxing, overwater-villa-style stay, while Sri Lanka looks like it offers a mix of beaches, culture, and activities outside the resort.

For a honeymoon experience, which destination did you prefer? Did you feel one offered better value, a more memorable experience, or just the right balance of relaxation and activities?
