Planning a honeymoon in Southeast Asia, pls help with recommendations!

Hi all!

My husband (M34, German) and I (F28, Ukrainian) are planning our March 2026 honeymoon and I’m officially overwhelmed. I would love advice from people who’ve traveled around Thailand and Southeast Asia.

What we want:

  • Quiet, beautiful beaches (honeymoon vibe, not crowded party spots)
  • Culture + chill + a bit of adventure
  • No all-inclusive resorts
  • We’re fine splurging occasionally on great experiences, but we’re not aiming for luxury the whole trip
  • Whole month of March
  • Flying from Munich (or elsewhere in Germany)

Why Thailand:

  • We’ll visit friends living on Phuket
  • Affordable, easy, great food
  • Husband’s first time in Asia
  • I don’t need a visa

The struggle:

  • Indonesia is out (rain season)
  • Philippines looked amazing but the logistics from Thailand felt like pain
  • Cambodia (Siem Reap + islands) really interests me, but I’m scared we’ll spend the honeymoon rushing from place to place instead of enjoying it especially if we add Cambodian islands
  • Another idea: stick to Thailand + maybe add Malaysia (Langkawi?) and fly home from Kuala Lumpur
  • We’re okay with a few flights, as long as the route makes sense
  • We want a balance between seeing things and actually having lazy days

I created a plan that includes Cambodia and Thailand, but it might seem like a hassle and we will be just running arround…

Preferences & limits:

  • Beaches: quiet, clean, romantic
  • No scuba diving or surfing, but up for snorkeling
  • Bangkok is a must too (want a big city experience, not just islands)
  • OK with ferries and domestic flights as long as they’re not chaotic
  • Husband likes a mix of adventure + relaxing
  • Flexible with budget — we haven’t decided on a strict daily limit yet

So my questions:

  • Is it worth combining Thailand + Cambodia + maybe Malaysia?
  • Or is it smarter to stick to Thailand + one extra country max?
  • Are Cambodian islands in March worth the detour compared to Thai islands?
  • What would YOU do with a whole month starting in Phuket and Krabi?
  • If you’ve done a Thailand + Cambodia trip, did it feel rushed?

Thanks a lot — I’m losing my mind trying to plan this 😅 Any route ideas or “don’t do this” tips are super appreciated.
