Portugal – Wine or Resort? Help!

Hi! Looking for some advice because I’ve spent much too much time researching and am now lost completely.

Dates: June 19-June 28th Flight: Chicago to Lisbon and back Confirmed (?): Lisbon from 19th-23rd Budget: $6-8k including flights ($2.4k) Background: 30 year old M/F couple, 1 mostly not a drinker but can hang, 1 enjoys a drink. Looking to be relaxed on the second leg of the trip but definitely want to have some fun while away. Our version of fun is not a massive party but maybe some decent music and certainly a good meal.

Interest Areas for Remaining Days: 1. Douro Valley – unbelievably beautiful views and accommodations. Neither of us are big wine drinkers but could go along for the sake of good history? Is it boring? Is there enough to do? Any nightlife? Good restaurants? Would likely stay at an airbnb and/or spa hotel.

1. Lagos/Algrave – beautiful beaches and more alive but seemingly less interesting accommodations and less beautiful overall vibe? But could be more fun? More choice? Would likely stay at a resort here.

2. Open to suggestions

What do we think? Douro Valley? Lagos? Somewhere else? Tell me all the things. I could absolutely be missing something with each of these so hit me!
