Hi there!
Like many in this group, my fiancé and I are beyond excited to get married this spring and go on our honeymoon this summer! We’re midway through planning and would love any thoughts from people who have done something similar (especially in June!!). We tend to be quite athletic and love active adventure (with a little relaxation at the end). Curious what you all think and if there is anything we should consider as we finalize. Thank you!!
(Sorry for the very long and poorly formatted post, on mobile!)
Timing: June 1-22 Total days (including travel): 20-21
DAY 1-2 Travel day/first flight to Taipei – 24 hours in Taipei for a long layover (my family is from Taipei so all good here)
DAY 3-7 First stop: Central Vietnam (Hoi An and Hue) Our plan: biking tour and walking through Hoi An, visiting temples and museums in Hue, walking through the historic villages, a few hours of beach possibly
*QUESTION: We have read conflicting reports about weather but it looks like historically central Vietnam stays drier than Northern (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa, Ninh Binh) and Southern areas (Ho Chi Minh, Mekong). We’ll definitely bring rain jackets and umbrellas, but curious if anyone has visited either Hoi An or Hue in early June. How was the experience? Any recommendations or reflections?
DAY 8-10 Quick stopover in Thailand (Bangkok) Our plan: visit temples, eat well, explore streets and museums
*QUESTION: we know monsoon season will have started in Bangkok, though we’re hoping it’s less intense in early June. Does anyone have insight for flights (do they get cancelled often)? Anything we should consideration to be respectful of local resources and needs of the city so we minimize how much we impose? Would it be okay to take a night train to Chiang Mai for a quick day visit or is that too much?
DAY 11-20 Nepal: splitting time between hiking in Northern Central Nepal (Annapurna) and relaxing and hiking in Southern Central (Chitwan)
Our plan: Spend a day in Kathmandu to explore and get acclimated.
Quick flight to Pokhara where we will get acclimated then start a 3 day hike (Mardi Himal). We have hiked at 4k meters before and are training for this hike at 5.5k meters elevation.
QUESTION: has anyone here done Mardi Himal? We’ve watched a bunch of videos and read blogs but would love any first hand points of view!
After we get back to Pokhara, we will fly directly to Chitwan (where we will finally remember to relax!). Spending 3 days here, with a car safari and river/walking safari depending on weather. We know this is the very start of monsoon season so will prepare accordingly. So excited to see rhinos and possibly tigers!
Flight home on June 20 will pass through Singapore, where we hope to enjoy a glass of wine and no hiking gear!
We were reviewing this yesterday and realized it may be a bit of a different / more sweaty honeymoon, but that’s kind of our lives. We’ve been lucky enough to hike volcanos across Central America, travel all over Japan visiting friends, do a safari in Tanzania, and horseback ride in Cuba. So curious what this group thinks, if there any changes you would suggest or notes on what to bring (rings will be left safely at home!).
Thanks so much for your help and happy honeymooning!
