Does anyone have any experience with Belize? Fiancé and I are thinking of one of the all inclusive resorts (probably either Coco Plum Island or Laru Beya to be specific), but neither of us have ever traveled outside of the US so we’re not really sure which countries/areas are safest. I’m sure the resorts themselves are plenty safe, but they offer inland tours that we’re interested in such as hiking the Mayan ruins and zip lining/cave tubing. Is traveling inland for those tours likely to be safe or are we better off sticking to our resort?
I’ve also heard plenty of horror stories of being robbed in airports/taxis/shuttles in different countries. We’re very careful, aware people, but is Belize relatively safe just for general travel?
Tl;dr – is Belize a safe country for travel, especially for honeymooners wanting to explore via resorts tours?
