Crete/Greece honeymoon questions

Hello! We are planning a honeymoon in mid-September. We were hoping to start with 6 days in Crete, then head to Santorini for 4 days, and fly back from Athens.

Does that itinerary make sense – would it be easier just to return to Crete and fly back from there? It would be nice to see Athens but we aren't set on it.

With regard to Crete, does anyone have recommendations for high-end, luxury beachside resorts? There seem to be a lot of nice five-star resorts, but I was hoping someone could provide any direct recommendations they may have. We'd really like to have easy access to a sandy beach. We will be renting a car and exploring the island as well.
