Fiji and New Zealand Honeymoon, is a travel agent necessary?

We are planning on going to Fiji and New Zealand for our honeymoon and I originally reached out to a travel agent since it is such a far trip (we are east coast US), and I wanted to not plan anything after planning a wedding. They presented us with an itinerary but we haven’t booked yet. What bothers me, which I also understand, is they are unable to talk prices outside of the total cost of the trip. Like we can’t know how much each hotel is, etc. I’m looking to cut costs and upgrade in other areas which is making it more difficult. I’m also feeling like it would be cheaper to book everything ourselves, but they are making it seem like we get better prices going through them. Has anyone traveled to these areas without a travel agent? Everything online is making it seem like we 100% need one. I do like the idea of just paying the travel agent to book everything out of ease, and having someone to contact if needed.

We travel frequently and have never used a travel agent, including trips to Japan, Hawaii, Europe, etc.

Separate question – has anyone done a Fiji and the South Island of New Zealand trip or honeymoon? Do you have any recommendations? We are looking at staying at the Tokoriki resort which I’m very excited for
