Going insane planning my honeymoon

Hi everyone! I posted this in travel as well but figured i'll post here too.

My Husband and I are in the middle of planning our honeymoon in February, we’ve got 27 days, and we’re trying to make it something that fits who we are.

For some background, we’re not typical tourists but still like to do the odd touristy things. I prefer to go a bit more off the beaten path and experience the authenticity of each country. We love nature, animals, wild landscapes, but also history, cities with soul, and great food.

We’ll be flying into Helsinki, and will be staying in Lapland briefly.

We’re kind of budget travellers overall, but happy to spend extra on things that feel special. We’ll be doing overnight trains where it makes sense (cheaper than a hotel + kills travel time), and then flying between the bigger distances (like Lapland to Berlin).

Here’s the rough route we’re playing with:

  • Helsinki
  • Lapland
  • Berlin
  • Austria (tossing up between Vienna and Salzburg)
  • Rome
  • Naples (I really want to go to pompeii)
  • Belgium (mainly for a specific zoo – Pairi Daiza – but not sure if its worth travelling all the way just for that)
  • Amsterdam
  • Then back to Helsinki to fly home

The alternative we’ve been toying with is a bit more rogue:
Instead of flying out of Lapland, we’d rent a car and drive into Northern Norway. The draw here is whale watching, more chances for northern lights, arctic wildlife, sea birds, and just those insane snow-covered fjords and winter hikes. But we’re not sure if this is actually doable in February with snow and daylight hours being what they are.

We don’t want to bite off more than we can chew, but also don’t want to miss out on something unforgettable because we played it too safe. Especially since we are planning to start a family next year it would be nice to do something ya can't really do with kids.

So I guess I’m throwing this out there in case anyone’s done anything similar or has some advice, did you ever go on a trip around these countries and did something completely different than other tourists, if so where did you go and what did you do?

Would really appreciate any tips from people who’ve travelled these areas in winter or just have experience with long, slightly chaotic trips like this. Open to all suggestions.
