Ideas for Awesome Off-the-beaten-path Honeymoons in Latin America

Hola! I've seen a lot of people on this subreddit wanting advice for destinations in Latin America so I thought I'd give you some ideas of trips I've seen be really successful:

-Chile: This is a hugely under-estimated destination. There are SO many things to do within the country itself, so you don't even need to leave. You have a beautiful metropolitan capital city surrounded by snow-capped mountains and amazing food, some of the best wine in the world (several wine producing regions can be done as day trips from Santiago), the driest desert in the world is in the north (San Pedro de Atacama), and of course the immense beauty of wild Patagonia in the south. If you don't mind a potentially long-ish flight, Chile is an AMAZING option.

-Mexico: There is SO MUCH more to do in Mexico beyond Cancún. I'd recommend flying into Mexico City, the largest Spanish-speaking city in the world. Spend a few days there eating world-class food, visiting fantastic museums, learn how to cook, see some shows, learn about the crazy history, and much more. Then head to Oaxaca City, a place that is now becoming a 'hot destination' and rightly so. The culture there is still very influenced by the indigenous people of the state of Oaxaca, and it's a charming place. While there you can see Hierve el Agua, one of two petrified waterfalls in the world (other one is in Turkey). Check out Monté Alban, an impressive complex of ruins of the Zapotec people. From there I would recommend immersing yourself in the beauty of Mexico — either with a beach (there are so many — Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta, Tulum to name a few) or the jungle in the state of Chiapas. It's a great destination for honeymooners on a budget too.

For anyone concerned about safety: I'd be happy to share my experiences. I've lived all throughout Latin America (currently in Mexico City, where I've been for over two years) and have never had an issue. Just like other big cities, you have to be mindful and of course, there are neighborhoods that you would want to avoid, but that's the case in most countries. Just be smart, aware of your surroundings, don't wear flashy jewelry and you should be fine.

I'd be happy to answer any questions in the comments as well, so feel free to leave some below!

If anyone on this sub is interested in planning a honeymoon to Latin America, definitely send me a PM. I've planned several at this point and it's something I love to do. Have a great weekend, everyone!
