Ideas for Late August/Early September in Europe

My fiance and I are getting married in June and wanting to have our honeymoon a short time after for ~14 days. We're wanting a soft sandy beach vacation while making sure exploring and hiking are close by. Currently we're considering Sicily, Greek Islands like Santorini or Crete, and Sardinia. We are big lovers of history and would love to see ruins or historical sights when possible. We're both photographers so we're looking forward to all of picture taking especially with the incredible architecture in both areas What is the best stuff to see? Where should we fly into? Where is the best place to stay?
