Hi everyone,
We’re planning our honeymoon in the Maldives for the end of August and beginning of September, right after our wedding. We’re aware that this coincides with the rainy season, but after reading through multiple posts and comments, we’re willing to take the chance if it means maximizing our time in the Maldives. We’re currently aiming for 12 nights, and as we’re not frequent travelers, we would love any feedback or advice on how to approach our honeymoon, as it’s a big splurge for us.
We’ve been browsing Expedia, but we’ve heard mixed reviews about using them, so we’d appreciate recommendations on travel agencies to contact.
Here’s what our current Expedia package includes:
- Departing Flight: 24-hour flight from YYZ to Male (multiple airlines, 1 stop)
- Accommodations:
- 4-night stay at OBLU Ailafushi in an oceanview room (all-inclusive)
- 8-night stay at VARU by Atmosphere in a water villa (all-inclusive)
- Return Flight: 27-hour flight from Male to YYZ (multiple airlines, 2 stops)
We did consider splitting our trip between the Maldives and Dubai, but as we really want to maximize our time in the Maldives to improve our chances of good weather, we’ve decided to focus entirely on the Maldives.
In terms of the resorts, we’ve opted for all-inclusive/full-board to make our experience more relaxing (we’re not looking to fill our days with excursions). We’re especially interested in good food and a variety of restaurant options (though we don’t plan to drink much), and we plan to spend most of our time snorkeling (a house reef is a plus). We chose a dual-resort plan to mix things up and experience a water villa while staying within our CAD 15K budget (flights and stay included). While adults-only isn’t a must, we would prefer that option if available.
We’d love to hear if anyone has feedback on these resorts or if there are any better options we might be missing. We want to make this a memorable trip since it’s unlikely we’ll be returning to the Maldives anytime soon.
