We’re looking to take a delayed honeymoon in July and can’t decide between St. Lucia or Maui. Maui is a dream destination for me and there’s so much I want to do on the island BUT I’m wondering if it’s worth all the travel and time change as opposed to going to St. Alicia which would be much easier and no time change. Some notes:
- we live in western New York but would probably fly out of jfk. I have family in Long Island and we could easily stay the night there and go to jfk in the morning
- we are not big travelers (especially my husband). Him and I have never even left the north east together so I worry that the time change is going to throw us off.
- one thing that worries me about traveling to Hawaii is not only the long travel times but the fact that I don’t really sleep on planes and my husband has sleep apnea. We’ve only just started getting him help for that and he has not found a good mask yet but I’m not even sure if you can use a cpap on a plane. Anyone with experience in this area, please do share!
There’s so much I want to do in Maui (Haleakala is a dream of mine) but can St. Lucia compare at all? Is Hawaii worth all of the travel from the east coast? Especially when we only have about a week? I know that Hawaii would be more of adventurous honeymoon while St. Lucia would be more relaxing which is ok, I’m fine with either route.
One other thing I want to note is we prefer an airbnb (specifically with Maui) as we want more privacy and don’t want to be around a bunch of kids. I know St. Lucia has adult only resorts while Maui doesn’t really.
Open to all suggestions and experiences, including other places you may have gone for your honeymoon!
