Negril Hotel/Resort Questions – Rockhouse and Sandals

After an insane amount of research, I think my fiancé and I have decided to go to Negril, Jamaica for our honeymoon. We plan to split our time between Sandals Negril (4 nights) and the Rockhouse (5 nights) in January 2026. I have a few questions before I finalize booking:

Sandals:

-We plan on booking the "Palm Grove Honeymoon One Bedroom Butler Suite w/ Private Pool Sanctuary" room. I've seen mixed reviews that state the "private" pool isn't actually private. Has anyone stayed in this room type and have specific feedback on room numbers to book? Or should we pivot and stay in another room type or just skip this resort all together?

Rockhouse:

-We booked a "Premium Villa" and are going to call and let them know it's our honeymoon. Is there a specific room number we should ask for? I'd love to be able to lay in the sun on our patio and have a ladder into the ocean if possible.

General Jamaica feedback:

-We were between a bunch of the Caribbean islands and decided on Jamaica partially due to the distance from Nashville, TN, we have Southwest points for free flights, and because Rockhouse looks like a super fun hotel/experience.

-Is there anything we should know about Jamaica/Negril in general – safety, getting around, fun things to do, etc.?
