No available seats next to each other on honeymoon flights

My soon-to-be husband and I are leaving for the Dominican Republic in 6 days and we’re SO EXCITED! But we’re not very experienced flyers and didn’t know you have to pay for seats in advance with Delta flights. I just happened to be checking in on the flight info when I saw there was a purchase seats option available now, but when I looked at it both of our flights had almost no seats available, and there aren’t two next to each other.

I really don’t want to beg people who knew to pay in advance to trade seats with me, so I was wondering if it’s worth telling the worker at check in that we’re on our honeymoon? Has pulling the newlywed card worked for anyone?
