Hello, my fiancé and I will be traveling from NYC to our destination wedding south of Barcelona, Spain at the end of May this year. After our wedding, we planned on traveling from Barcelona to the South of France. We're allocating 6 nights for our honeymoon before we fly back to NYC at the very beginning of June. As for transportation from Barcelona, it appears we have several options including trains, short flights and even perhaps a car rental (would love to hear more advice on this as well).
We're in the very early stages of honeymoon planning but ideally, we'd like to split our 6 nights between two "home bases" in the South of France (whether that's split 3/3 or 4/2). So far, we're pretty set about having a home base in or around Nice, such as Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Antibes or Villefranche sur Mer. However, we're having trouble deciding on where to spend the other home base.
I've read briefly about Cassis, Avignon and some of the areas surrounding it. Haven't read too much about Montpellier and the surrounding areas. But I'd love to hear any input and opinions on other regions and towns to spend the other home base at!
Activities we're looking to do:
- Walking around small towns checking out small shops and eateries
- Taking in scenic views
Since we're for sure thinking about staying in Nice, we can make the other location either more inland or coastal if it's unique enough from Nice. We're not concerned with too much night life since we'll be getting our fill of that in during the wedding portion.
Additionally, we'd love to hear about lodging recommendations for the trip! We were hoping to stay at more small and intimate places such as bed & breakfast, villas and chateaus. We're open to more classic hotels as well. Budget-wise we're looking at anything $600 or less per night.
