Trying to plan a Maui honeymoon under 5k

It’s probably impossible but I’m trying to get the best bang for my buck anywhere I can! Please let me know if there’s anywhere I can be doing better.

Accommodations- I found a VRBO unit at the Eldorado that’s beautiful with great reviews. Kitchen so we don’t have to eat out every time too. Sounds like a great location that’s quieter than the resorts. It does come out to $400/night after taxes and fees though, so I wonder if I can be doing better.

Car- Found a convertible Ford Mustang rental for $700 that my fiancé is in love with. It’s $125 more than the cheapest rental I could find, but I think it will be so worth it on our drives, especially road to hana?

Flights- This is really killing me. There’s only one direct flight from Chicago and it’ll run us $1700 round trip. The cheapest option would save us $600 but includes a 39 min layover in LAX that seems super risky.

I was thinking of getting the United credit card that’s offering 60k mikes for spending 3k. I can put that much on it right away and the miles would pay for most of the direct flights. But, I’m not sure if it’s too risky to wait 2 months for those miles to come through without booking.

Activities- what’s worth it? We have plenty of low cost things planned like road to Hana, Haleakala, relaxing on the beach, maybe snorkel rentals. But those more expensive things like the Luaus, are they really worth it?
