Apologies ahead as this is lengthy.
So our planner recommended we work with a travel agent and we decided that was a good idea eventually because I was getting overwhelmed with how to get the best value out of our choices (what parts of our stay it’s worth it to splurge on, comparing package inclusions etc).
We found one based in our area who specializes in the area we want to go and met with her virtually. She seems great. We communicated our wants and preferences and budget.
She reached out recently with an itinerary from a tour company that was just not hitting the mark at all. She also created a basic itinerary just based on what we told her: dates, places, per night cost.
The tour company itinerary was fully out of budget which I don’t mind, as I believe she was passing on the info to stay transparent. However, where it missed the mark bug was the type of accommodations and the lack of inclusions. 1) we were pretty clear we wanted to stay in independent hotels, local hotel groups okay but basically every hotel was a multinational chain; 2) we’re traveling over Christmas and new years so we want the stays over those dates to be inclusive packages
I think my biggest folly is that I’ve done a fair bit of research before we booked her so I’ve got lists of cool historic independent hotels and different Christmas packages with all meals and festivities included. I think I thought a travel agent would be able to unearth some hidden gems and sort through to present us with a menu of options. Not to mention maybe an upgrade to get us a room with a freestanding tub.
But now having received the basic itinerary I’m not sure what to do because it feels silly to tell her exactly where we want to stay or be like help us decided between these two boutique places I already researched a ton. But maybe it’s not?
Tldr : we have very specific desires for our honeymoon stays and I’m not sure how to get the best value out of working with a TA and get exactly what we want
